About Us
We’re a patination and metal finishing studio led by Derek Bayley and Matt Robinson, based in South East London. Our backgrounds in fine art and metal fabrication shape the way we work, balancing technical precision with an artist’s eye for surface and tone.
Every project we take on is treated as a collaboration. Whether we’re developing a new patina or restoring a much-loved work, our aim is simple - create a finish that compliments both the form and the intention behind it.
Much of our work is carried out for internationally recognised designers, artists, and private clients. Many commissions are completed under confidentiality, with discretion forming a natural part of the process.
Our Ethos
Every project starts as a conversation. Choosing and applying the right patina is a critical moment in the life of a work, and collaboration sits at the heart of that process.
We take the time to listen, explore options, and experiment when needed, always guided by your vision. This shared process ensures each piece receives the finish it deserves. One that enhances the work and respects the intent behind it.
Our collaborative Process

Consultation
Whether you’re commissioning a new work, restoring something aged, or revisiting a finish you’re not happy with, we’ll talk through the options and give clear, practical advice.

Sampling
Through discussion and sampling, we’ll guide you to the finish that works best. Often this means testing directly on the piece to see how it responds.

Patination
We use both traditional and modern techniques, flame, chemicals, and craft, to create finishes that are distinctive, and true to the material.

Studio Visit
Clients are welcome to join us in the studio. You can observe, photograph, and give input while the patina develops, sharing in the process as it happens.

Guidance and craft at every stage - from samples and tests to final application - to create unique, durable patinated finishes.

Sensitive cleaning, repair, and re-patination for sculptures, art pieces and architectural metalwork features.

We work with foundries and fabricators, from chasing and refining through to expert patination and final sealing.
