From Foundry to Finish - Bringing Cast and Fabricated Metal to Life
We collaborate with foundries, fabricators, designers and artists to chase, refine, and patinate bronze, brass, steel, and copper. Every stage is handled with care, precision, and experience
Our Role in the Process After Foundry or Fabrication
Once a piece has been cast or fabricated, we step in to chase, refine, and prepare the surface so it’s ready for us to apply its final finish.
Whether you’re working with a traditional art casting foundry or a modern fabrication studio, we ensure your sculpture, installation or furniture is finished to the highest standard and ready for presentation.
Although we’re not a foundry, and we don’t fabricate, if needed, we can recommend trusted foundries or fabricators we regularly work with.
Metal Casting Support
Most of the work we see is cast in bronze, brass, or aluminium using the lost-wax method, or occasionally sandcast in smaller sections.
Sandcasting is one of the oldest known techniques, dating back thousands of years. Molten metal is poured into a pattern pressed into compacted sand, creating a form ready for finishing.
Once cast, the piece comes to us either ready for patination or requiring chasing, joining, and refined first. Every stage of casting and finishing contributes to the final outcome, which is why experience and craftsmanship matter at every step.
Metal Fabrication Finishing
We also work with fabricators, designers and architectural studios to create bespoke brass, bronze, copper, aluminium, and steel surfaces.
From blackened steel panels to aged brass stair rails, we can develop finishes that balance durability with beauty.
Our Typical Workflow
-
Casting or Fabrication
The piece is cast at a foundry or constructed by a fabricator in bronze, brass, copper, steel, aluminium, or mixed metals.
-
Chasing & Surface Prep
We refine welds, remove sprues, and clean up seams - leaving invisible joins and smooth, consistent surfaces ready for finishing.
-
Patina
Patinas are applied by hand - using flame, brush, spray, or layered treatments - chosen to suit the material, desired effect, and context.
-
Finish
The surface is sealed with wax or lacquer to protect and preserve the final appearance, ensuring the finish performs well in its environment.
